Scaling At The Edges: Experimentation

As part of Deloitte's Tech Trends 2015 report it also identified outlier tech trends that would be making a significant impact on IT in the year ahead. One of those is a trend of enterprises scaling their businesses, not at their core, but rather at the edges.

The idea, Deloitte writes, is that "organizations rewire planning, funding, and delivery models so they can explore new concepts and ideas" at the edges of their business.

"Most large enterprises have somewhat linear approaches to investing, predicated on thorough business cases built around concrete ROI and fixed timelines. For an exponential organization, a culture of critical mass experimentation should be fostered and embedded into the process of learning and growing—failing fast and cheap, yet moving forward," Deloitte wrote.
